Overview

EpiK DrumS - A Ken Scott Collection is a deluxe 130 gigabyte collection of multitrack drum kit and groove instruments created with legendary producer and engineer Ken Scott (The Beatles, Elton John, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Supertramp, etc.) and five iconic drummers Bill Cobham, Terry Bozzio, Woody Woodmansey (Bowie), Bob Siebenberg (Supertramp) and Rod Morgenstein (Dixie Dregs) as well as bonus percussion and kits in the style of The Beatles and Elton John.

Details

EpiK DrumS is a deluxe collection of drumkit and groove instruments created with legendary producer and engineer, Ken Scott (The Beatles, Elton John, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Supertramp, etc.) and five iconic drummers known for their work on numerous original classic rock recordings. EpiK DrumS is an advanced virtual instrument designed specifically to realistic drum performances from a MIDI keyboard or electronic drumkit that offers a stunningly realistic emulation of an actual live drum session. EpiK DrumS has captured authentic vintage drum sounds from a diverse range of classic artists containing over 115 GB of drums conveniently preinstalled on a 250 GB portable HD to get you up and running in minutes, not hours or days. Deep levels of velocity and round robin alternating hits provide extreme expression and convincing realism. EpiK DrumS provides the ability to mix discrete microphone tracks for complete engineering flexibility as well as ready - to - go finished album quality mixes from Ken Scott himself.

  • Recorded by legendary producer and engineer Ken Scott
  • Five legendary drummers: Bill Cobham, Bob Siebenberg, Terry Bozzio, Woody Woodmansey and Rod Morgenstein
  • Superior quality drum recordings of individual hits and grooves from the same session
  • Multitrack recordings provide discrete mic tracks with tempo adjustable REX control
  • Stereo mixes by Ken Scott also provided
  • Over 115 GB preinstalled on a portable hard drive to get you up and running in minutes
  • The closest thing to a live drum recording session available for your computer - based production
If you want to create drum tracks for your music that sounds like you were in a top notch studio with world class drummer, EpiK DrumS is as close as it gets. Produced by legendary producer and engineer Ken Scott (The Beatles, Elton John, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Supertramp, etc.) and Sonic Reality, EpiK DrumS provides both grooves and hits from the same session for seamless combination and integration into your own original tracks. EpiK DrumS contains amazing performances by five iconic drummers: Bill Cobham, Bob Siebenberg, Terry Bozzio, Woody Woodmansey and Rod Morgenstein. The diversity in these artists' styles provides a rich variety to suit nearly any production that requires top notch live drumming.

Perhaps the most compelling and unique feature of Sonic Reality's Drum Masters Series and this Ken Scott EpiK DrumS collection is the provided discrete mic mixing for both the individual drum hits for MIDI sequencing and the live audio grooves which lock to your host tempo as multitrack REX files. This powerful feature gives you total control over both the mix and the tempo of your drum tracks. The grooves contain the actual multitrack audio from the drummers' recorded performances and not MIDI sequences of individual samples. Should you wish to supplement the grooves with additional parts or sections, complete multitrack round robin samples of each drum is also provided for your own MIDI sequencing. Ken Scott has also created album quality stereo mixes of the tracks as well. Imagine having the choice of a legendary producer's stereo mix of your drums and the source multitrack material for your own custom mixes. EpiK DrumS provides both.

EpiK DrumS includes seven advanced expressive drum kits in the style of artists such as David Bowie, Supertramp, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Dixie Dregs, Missing Persons, Elton John and The Beatles. The sound of EpiK DrumS is stunningly authentic. Sonic Reality hunted down the specific vintage gear used on the original albums that made Ken Scott and these legendary drummers famous and used that gear to record EpiK DrumS. With the recording equipment in place, an all star team including Drum Doctor Ross Garfield was assembled to gather and prepare the instruments for this production. Surgical detail was applied to every aspect of EpiK DrumS from the drum instruments themselves to the microphones to the preamps and outboard gear employed. In addition to classic drum sounds, EpiK DrumS also includes a suite of percussion instruments used in Ken Scott's productions, orchestra chimes, glockenspiel, hand claps, wine glasses, gongs and more.

With the combination of a legendary producer and engineer, five renowned drummers, authentic recordings using the actual equipment from classic albums and multitrack REX control, EpiK DrumS is the closest thing to conducting a live drum recording session in a top notch studio with the best drummers in the world.

ABOUT KEN SCOTT

Ken Scott is a legendary British recording engineer and producer who recorded The Beatles, David Bowie, Elton John, Supertramp, Pink Floyd, Jeff Beck, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Billy Cobham, Duran Duran, Dixie Dregs, Missing Persons, Devo, Lou Reed, America, George Harrison and many other iconic artists in music history. He had his start in the 60s working as a Tape Op at Abbey Road Studios and from there went on to produce and/or engineer some of the most acclaimed albums of the 20th Century. Ken has recorded timeless songs such as "I Am The Walrus," "Rocket Man," "Ziggy Stardust," "Dreamer," "Walk On The Wild Side" and many others. One of the unique aspects of Ken’s career in music is the diversity of iconic styles he has been a part of from the 60’s to today… from the birth of Modern Rock ‘n’ Roll (Beatles) to Glam Rock (Bowie) to Fusion (Mahavishnu Orchestra) to New Wave (Missing Persons, Devo) and more.

Ken Scott has collaborated with Sonic Reality to capture samples in a modern software instrument with some of the most sought after distinct character sounds he has recorded over the years. These are sounds that might otherwise be lost in history, but with the same great ears, technique and style Ken has preserved a sonic part of his legacy to bring inspiration to new musicians all over the world.

Woody Woodmansey

Here Ken Scott records Woody Woodmansey who he hasn't worked with since they did the original sessions for David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. Recreating those drum sessions and the sounds of other albums Ken recorded with Bowie such as Hunky Dory and Aladdin Sane, the authentic sound of Woody's drums from the early 70's is captured for EpiK DrumS.

Terry Bozzio

Here's a behind the scenes look at sample sessions with Ken Scott and Terry Bozzio for the Ken Scott Collection from Sonic Reality. Here they are recreating the unusual drum sounds of Terry's all-Roto kit, the same one used with Missing Persons.

Rod Morgenstein

This is a behind the scenes look at the Rod Morgenstein sample sessions with Ken Scott and Sonic Reality. Here Ken is recreating the drum multi-tracks of the Dixie Dregs from records he recorded with Rod over 20 years ago.

Bill Cobham

This is a behind the scenes look at the Bill Cobham sample sessions for the EpiK DrumS. It features a recreation of the classic sessions Ken Scott recorded with the Mahavishnu Orchestra and Bill's landmark solo albums in the 70's.

Bob Siebenberg

This is a recreation of those early 70's Supertramp sessions done with Ken Scott and Bob in 2008 with the original equipment (which was hard to find!). These two haven't worked together in over 30 years!
