Famed engineer and producer Ken Scott has re-created some of the classic drum sounds of his storied career for Sonic Reality’s EpiK DrumS virtual instrument
Here are quotes from the Ken Scott’s NAMM 2010 interview about the recording of EpiK DrumS: A Ken Scott Collection, from the February issue of Pro Sound News:
“Ken Scott has engineered and produced a wide assortment of artists-Pink Floyd, Elton John, The Tubes, Devo, Kansas, Level 42 and Duran Duran, among many others-since his very first recording session, working as an assistant on the second side of the Beatles’ A Hard Day’s Night album at Abbey Road Studios. More than four decades after his first session, Scott has revisited some of his early projects in order to produce the EpiK DrumS: A Ken Scott Collection virtual instrument for Sonic Reality…Scott drew up a shortlist of drummers that he had worked with who also represented a wide variety of styles. Billy Cobham (Mahavishnu Orchestra), Terry Bozzio (Missing Persons), Bob Siebenberg (Supertramp), Woody Woodmansey (David Bowie) and Rod Morgenstein (Dixie Dregs) all agreed to participate. In order to faithfully re-create the drum sounds of such classic albums…Scott needed to find the right rooms and the right equipment…” – Steve Harvey, Pro Sound News
